Oratoire Saint Joseph de Montreal, una capilla con grandes aspiraciones
The morning begins with an American breakfast at your hotel. We will drive to the top of Mount Royal to enjoy a spectacular panoramic view of the city of Montreal. Your day will include a visit to the, the largest sanctuary in the world dedicated to Saint Joseph; which was founded by Saint Brother André in 1904 as a modest chapel. Annually, this pilgrimage center receives more than two million visitors who come to meditate and pray in this peaceful environment. The Oratory of San José grew from a small chapel on the beautiful Monte Real to the main Sanctuary of today. The dome of the basilica reaches 97 meters and ranks second in height after St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. The primitive chapel, votive chapel, crypt, and basilica feature a variety of architectural styles, as construction began in 1904 and ended in 1966 with various architects over the decades. During our tour we will visit the reliquary where the relics of Saint Brother André are exhibited and we will see the two large pipe organs along with the carillon of 56 bronze bells that are played often during the week. We will celebrate Mass and you will be able to participate in the Stations of the Cross on the mountainside before continuing our journey. Next, we will visit the headquarters of the Archdiocese of Montreal, the Basilica Marie-Reine-du-Monde (Mary, Queen of the Cathedral of the World), the third largest church in Montreal after the Oratory of Saint Joseph and the Basilica of Sainte -Anne. -de-Beaupré. This Basilica was visited in 1951 by Monsignor Giovanni Battista Montini, future Pope Paul VI, and in August 1969 Cardinal Karol Wojtyla, future Pope John Paul II, visited. He returned in 1984 as the first Pope to visit Canada. Our next stop will be the 350-year-old Notre Dame de Bon Secours Chapel and the Marquerite Bouygeoys Museum. The chapel built in 1771 on the site of the original stone chapel was often visited by sailors to pray before being sent for service. The story of Marguerite-Bourgeoy’s exceptional life as a woman of action alongside the early settlers who built Montreal is beautifully presented when we visit the museum named after her. The tower offers a spectacular view of Old Montreal and the Old Port. Tonight relax with a dinner on your own and stroll through the city. Accommodation in Montreal.
